Welcome to the Dismantling Supremacy Discussion Series

In this Collab Lab discussion series, we talk about supremacy culture and our responsibility to examine it within ourselves and our communities.

Connecting individual struggle & systemic inequality

What Are You Gatekeeping?

This work is best done in community: Join the Winter Incubator and Summer Luminator for space to work through this together.

In the Winter Incubator, we reflect on the spaces where we hold power and our responsibilities to build an inclusive future.

In what arenas do you have the power to block or limit access for those with less power?

  • How did you come upon the authority to block or allow access?

  • Which threats of intrusion from ‘outsiders’ are real, and which are imagined?

  • Who specifically are you responsible for keeping out, and why?

When have you felt protective over a space or decision?
  • Who are you protecting?
  • Who is harmed?
  • What could happen if you stop blocking access? Is this likely, or unlikely to actually happen?
How do you decide who gets to be heard, and who gets ignored or silenced?
  • What are you afraid will happen if you give space for ‘outside’ voices?

  • What good things could happen?

  • How would you overcome the worst that could happen?

What if…

We don’t have to invite everyone to every party.

How could we still be mindful of the assumptions we make about who belongs?
